Viewing to the history of Nepali film sector with comparing to the world, it is found that Nepalese film history has its short period than others. Rana System was very much unfriendly to the ordinary communication having different means was banned by Rana regime and cinema also couldn't be exception. Local people were far from cinema because at that time it was the medium of entertainment only for Ranas. Though the first theater was established in 2006 B.S. in Kathmandu, the door of theater was almost closed for the lower class people, where entrance was mere a dream for them. But no one can confine the word "change" as it has its own track and it automatically flows with time.
After the democratic revolution in 2007 B.S that theater was privatized and every one was allowed. In this way the history of Nepali film industry was born. So crossing innumerable such hurdles Nepali film industry has come to this stage now. Sathya Harishchandra was the film produced by Indian crews outside Nepal in 2008 B.S. under the direction of Darjeeling's DB Pariyar, which was dubbed in Nepali language after the Hindi version but it couldn't make its identity as a first Nepali cinema. This subject is still in the cyclone of debate. Although it didn't hamper the film sector, after the release of this film, the development of theater took the considerable step.
As a consequence Jainepal, Bishowjyoti cinema ghar were built. When the time flows on its own orbit then things around it need to be changed its shape. So Aama became an outcome after the past of fourteen spring seasons, which was the first Nepalese feature film made in Nepali investment under the direction of Hirasingh Khatri and was supported by the government as well. It had its show on 2022 Aswin 15, where Shivashankar emerged as the first Hero and Bhuwan Chand the first heroine. The other actors were Hari Prashad Rimal, Basundhara Bhusal, Indralal Shrestha, Uttam Nepali, Bimal Shrestha, Chaitadevi Singh, Durgaprashad Shrestha, Bhimbahadur Gurung, Yedukumari and Hirasingh Khatri himself.
Unlimited talents were born after the first Nepali film with their new creation and with diverse views. Now there came the turn of BS Thapa with his debut film Maithi Ghar, which was the first private capitalized and independent cinema. It was released in 2022 B.S. where Chidambar Prashad Lohoni and Mala Sinha were the leading characters, whereas Yambahadur Khadka, Sunita Regmi, KB Lamichhane, Yedukumari, Pratima Sharma, Yadav Kharel were aside actors. Nandakishor Timilsina, Nar Sumsher Rana, Dr. Jogendra Jha were the investors of it. Hijo-Aaja-Bholi was the subsequent of Hirasingh, which came to the market in 2024 B.S. and Paribartan became the third gift by him to the Nepalese film industry, which was based on the drama "Chetena" by Janardan Sam.
History is a testimony that the thirty years of Panchayat System and the different political conflicts have hindered the development of the film industry so it could not show its full gravity. The movies were found to be under the government control and they worked as the advocator of government's policy. As the time hunted for change of the pattern, there came the role of Royal Nepal Film Corporation which was established with the aim to bring standard and professionalism in Nepalese film and to give entertainment too.
Maanko Baadh became the first attempt of the corporation which was directed by Prakash Thapa and was released in 2030 Falgun 8. After one year of the first endeavor, Kumari was made by the corporation which is also known as the first colored film and it was released in 2034 Aswin 9 under the direction of student's of Puna film institution, India The story of the film has it's genesis in Bijaya Malla's Shova Kriti. Under the banner of Royal Nepal Film Corporation approximately twelve films were built where only countable films like Sindur, Jivan Rekha, Badlido Aakash etc got chance to kiss the success. Royal Nepal Film Corporation couldn't move with the changing scenario of time so it was privatized in 2050 B.S.
Gradually the wave of Nepalese Film industry took the new height. Many films were born with the private capital like Aadarsa Nari, Kanchi, Bashudev etc. Current wave of time interestingly left its shadow on Nepalese Film industry. Bit more qualitative films came subsequently like Kusume Rumal, Lahure and Chino which even celebrated Silver Jubilee and proved to be milestones. Many films celebrated a century day. Today viewing back to the history, just recall the year, 2022 B.S., when Aama was made, then you will know that we have left innumerable shade of steps. In those days, only low number of films used to be developed but current situation is quite different because every year more than twenty-five films are getting released in the market. But if we look through the wider perpective then you find that we really need to move our steps forward fast. In comparison to the film industries of other countries, we are lucky to have got better scope and a bright future. Even at this backdrop we are still lagging behind which is a pinching question in this industry. The reasons could be varied and some of them could be: the running civil war, ongoing political conflicts, lack of technology, lack of investment, lack of education, lack of better market, and the like.
